Scope and Function

Community Service of Newburyport is seeking a dynamic and relationship-driven Fundraising & Development Manager to lead and grow our fundraising and donor engagement efforts. This individual will play a key role in increasing financial support and awareness for the organization by cultivating donor relationships, managing our CRM system, organizing fundraising events, and collaborating closely with staff and a highly engaged Board of Directors.

The ideal candidate is both strategic and hands-on—comfortable planning long-term fundraising initiatives while also executing day-to-day development activities. The essence of this role is guiding the Board and staff on Development and Fundraising strategies and plans and providing direction for the execution of those plans.

Key Responsibilities Include:

Fundraising & Donor Relations

· Develop and implement annual fundraising strategies to meet revenue goals, in conjunction with the Board and Staff

· Cultivate, steward, and expand relationships with individual donors, corporate partners, and foundations

· Identify and pursue new fundraising opportunities, including major gifts and sponsorships

· Conduct donor outreach through meetings, calls, emails, and written appeals

· Prepare donor acknowledgments, impact reports, and stewardship communications

CRM & Data Management

· Manage and maintain the organization’s CRM system, ensuring accurate donor records and reporting

· Track donations, pledges, event participation, and donor engagement

· Generate reports and insights to support fundraising strategy and board updates

Events & Community Engagement

· Plan and execute fundraising and community engagement events

· Coordinate event logistics, staff activities, volunteers, sponsorships, and follow-up communications

· Represent CSN at local community events to increase visibility and awareness of the organization and form relationships with local collaborators and potential donors

Board & Organizational Collaboration

· Work closely with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to support fundraising initiatives

· Assist board members with donor outreach and engagement strategies

· Prepare fundraising updates and materials for board meetings

· Collaborate with program staff to communicate impact and align messaging

Marketing & Awareness

· Support development of fundraising communications, including newsletters, appeals, and social media content (may use marketing consultants at times)

· Help tell CSN’s story by highlighting programs, outcomes, and community impact

· Ensure consistent and mission-aligned messaging across fundraising efforts

Qualifications, Skills and Abilities Required for Role

  • Warm, respectful and thoughtful demeanor with donors, Board members, staff and clients
  • Demonstrated success in donor cultivation and relationship management
  • Experience using CRM systems and managing donor data
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills as well as skill in creating successful outreach messaging, content, marketing materials and social media posts
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with staff and board members
  • Comfort engaging with donors and community stakeholders
  • Event planning experience
  • Familiarity with grant research or grant writing
  • Passion for community-based work and social services
  • Flexible, proactive, and solutions-oriented mindset
  • Local connections and knowledge of funders in the area a strong plus
Education and Experience Required · Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in nonprofit development, fundraising, marketing, or a related field
